Not usually one to call myself 'blessed'...but proof that I am!!!

I came home from Utah today because I had a follow-up appointment at the doctor. The hospital is located near the shops that work on our vehicles. One of my friends from work told me that he had seen the car parked there, and that it was impressive. I decided to find the car. The damage to the vehicle was amazing! I couldn't believe it. I really like this first picture, because the pole that I hit was not round, rather it was shaped like an octagon. If you look closely at the hood, above the dented pit bumper, you can almost make out the shape of the octagon. Pretty cool.

I couldn't get a really good shot of the windshield, but if you look where the rear view mirror should be, you can see that the windshield is 'starred'. I guess that is where my head connected with the windshield, removing the rear view mirror, and opening the flesh on my head.

Every night before we go to bed, Brooklyn and Jeremy ask in their prayers that I will be safe at work. I think that I am extremely blessed to have been able to walk away from this with little more than minor injuries and a good story!

snowed in

Benson pulled the kids on the sled to the office. It was a lot of fun.
The kids and I were supposed to fly out on Monday. We got part way to the airport when we found out our flight was canceled. We were expecting that but didn't want to miss it if it wasn't canceled. This picture was taken the day we were supposed to fly out. For anyone that knows our area this is 99W. It is a very main road and it is completely covered in at least 6 inches of packed snow. It makes for quite an adventure. Good thing Benson is such a good driver in the snow. I can't sit at home for days and days, luckily Benson is willing to go out in this.
Yesterday we went out and enjoyed the snow. May as well embrace it, right?

I needed proof that Ryan and I braved the weather also.

Jeremy loved just pulling the sled around.

I'm dreaming of a white, ice encrusted, Christmas!!!

For those of you who are not familiar with the great Northwest, there is a lovely phenomenon known as 'freezing rain'. The basic concept of freezing rain is that there is water falling in the form of rain, but as it hits the trees, ground, cars and other things, it freezes. We had about 8 to 12 inches of powdery snow, followed by freezing rain. The rain froze the top level of the snow, forming about a 1/2 inch of ice layer on the snow. It looks absolutely beautiful, but it causes lots of headaches.

As one steps onto the frozen snow, you actually break through the ice. The ice breaking produces a deep cracking sound, and reminded me of the movies where the unsuspecting guy breaks through the frozen lake.
The kids were having a blast throwing the broken chunks of ice. I guess jagged ice is much more fun to throw than snow balls! Excuse the ghetto pj's and rain boot combo, we weren't really worried about fashion sense.

All of the individual branches have a layer of ice on them.

Don't know if you can make it out in the picture, but our van is covered in ice. I had to crack all of the ice off of the windows and doors. At one point, I was holding the ice scraper like a baseball bat and hitting the body of the van in order to crack the ice.

You can't really see how thick the ice is, but this picture shows how much ice was covering the snow.

We are loving the white, but we hope that we are able to make our flights to Utah for the Christmas celebration!

"Click it or Ticket"

Pretty much everybody who has heard about the crash has made comment about the fact that I may not have been securely strapped into my vehicle. Well, Kerri and Steve decided that they would send me a little 'get better' gift. As you can see, Kerri had the cookie place write 'click it or ticket' on the center piece. I thought it was pretty funny.
Funny story about the cookies: we were bringing the cookies into the house and Jeremy and Brooklyn were fighting over who got the blue race car. Brooklyn sighed and then said "well, I guess I will eat the green one." Michelle then had to remind the both of them that the cookies belonged to me, and that they would be lucky to get any of the cookies.
By the way, the cookies are delicious. Thanks Kerri and Steve!!!

I dig snow!

So we got a bunch of snow on Sunday. When I say a bunch a mean an Oregon bunch not a Utah bunch. I am guessing we got around 3 inches. It was so beautiful and it is still around. Usually here it snows and melts but it is still on the ground. It is amazing how much shuts down when we get a little bit of snow in Oregon. We got out of church 2 hours early, the kids don't have school, Club Sport (where I work) closed down, and the doctor called me to see if I was still going to come for my appointment. I guess it is because there are no snow plows. Our roads are literally covered in ice. It is kinda nice though because we get to have some fun family days together.

Anyway, I was taking pictures of Ryan in his very appropriate shirt that read, "I dig snow." Of course Jeremy needed to join in. I love this picture because poor little Ryan looks like he is begging for me to take him from Jeremy. Which he actually probably really was doing. Little Ry in his cute snow shirt.
We had a really nice Sunday. We got together with some friends for dinner and the kids went outside to play. Our friends have a huge yard so the kids had tons and tons of room to do whatever their little hearts desired.

little Ry guy

My little Ryan turned 4 months old yesterday. Time is just slipping away from me. Ryan makes my life a lot more hectic and I get a lot less done but I can't imagine not having him in my life. He is so sweet and I love to just watch him. He is such a smiley happy guy. One of my favorite things is when I am getting him dressed he giggles at me. I think it must tickle him to have clothes rub up against his body. He is also a big talker. Benson was taking me to work the other day and Ryan talked the whole way there. He loves to talk. At his doctor's appointment the other day he had to get his shots. Well of course it made him cry. So I pick him up and he looks over my shoulder at the nurse and starts like yelling at her. She felt horrible because she could tell he was yelling at her.

What a blessing Ryan has been in our family. The kids are so good with him and have taught them so much about love and patience.

Benson makes "The Oregonian"

Benson found this on the internet tonight. It is so weird to see. They took the picture from his facebook account. They cut me right out of it. What's up with that! Anyway, here is the link.

Benson vs. Windshield

So who do you think won in this lovely little fight. I like to believe it was a tie. As you can tell by the picture below the windshield did a number on Benson's forehead but it didn't KO him. He didn't even get a cuncussion. So I like to believe it was a tie! Now the story. I got a call at 4:00 this morning and it was from a co worker of Benson's telling me that Benson was in a minor fender bender. Of course I was totally freaking out inside but tried to stay calm. He proceeded to tell me that Benson was in the hospital and they were running all kinds of tests on him. Officer Manis volunteered to come pick me up and take me to the hospital to see him. So I said yes and then called Shelly. She of course was totally willing to get out of her warm bed and come over and be with my kids so I could go to the hospital. So Matt was here by 4:30 and the first thing I said to him was, "Okay, be real with me. Is Benson really okay." He assured me that he was and we headed to the hospital. Benson looks a lot better in this picture then he did at the hospital. At the hospital he had dry blood all over his face, crusted into his eye brows and on his hands.

Long story short, Benson had to swerve to miss someone who had pulled out in front of him and Benson hit a pole. His head met the windshield and so did the rest of his body. He couldn't get out his door so he climbed across and got out the passenger door. Apparently he was gushing blood due to the fact that he had skinned open an artery in his forehead. The first officer on scene (besides Benson) came over to him and the first thing Benson said was, "Go get a statement from that guy." His friend told him no, that he needed to sit down take care of him first. I am not sure of the story from there. The ambulance came and took Benson to the hospital and I was called a little after that. They didn't have a phone number for me otherwise I would have been called sooner. I was relieved when I saw him and realized that Matt had not down played Benson's injuries. Benson was in high spirits. Funny Benson story: Some hospital worker came in to ask Benson some questions one of them being his marital status. Mind you I am sitting right next to him. So Benson says he is married and the lady turns to me and says, "Hi Wife." Without missing a beat Benson says, "Oh, this isn't my wife." I quickly told her that I was his wife and then I knew he really was okay.

I must say, I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love and support that has been shown to us by fellow officers of Benson's and the general police bureau. Also from all of our amazing friends who totally dropped what they had going on to help with our kids so I could go be with Benson. I love you guys so much and I cannot say enough how much it all means to me. I am surrounded by such amazingly selfless people. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

another year, another tree

While Kathi, Zach, and Ashli were here we decided to do another tradition that we started last year. We went and cut down our Christmas tree. This year Kathi also picked one out and took it home with her. So that will be fun to see it in her house when we go for Christmas.

Once again the pictures are in the opposite order then what I put them but I guess it's not a big deal. This picture was taken just before they left. As you can see Jer was fighting about being in the picture. Zach did a good job holding him. This picture is taken in front of the tree that Kathi picked.

This is our tree with Benson posing like a dork.

I love this picture of Jer with his little head poking through. They were doing the all important job of holding the tree while Benson cut it down.

You would never know that during our hunt for the tree we had a huge fight as to what tree to get. Jeremy was all upset because he wanted a different tree but Brooklyn liked the same on that Benson did. So of course we have to stand there while I try and figure out how to please both kids. Jeremy ended up conceding. As long as he made sure that he gets to pick the tree next year.

is this for real...

We put in an offer on the yellow house posted down below. It is a short sale so it will take awhile to find out if the bank will accept our offer or not. All I know is that I never thought we would ever put an offer on a house. We are soooooo excited and just hope and pray that we get it!

The house is in Battle Ground, Washington. Which is just funny to me that we will be moving to another state. This will be the 4th state we will have lived in. And I have never gotten an Oregon license because I don't want to take the written test and pay $50. Yes my husband lectures me every chance he gets telling me that I am breaking the law. The good thing is is that in Washington I won't have to take the written test. See, procrastinating isn't always a bad thing!

Thanksgiving

We had another fun Thanksgiving with Kathi, Zach, and Ashli. They didn't get here until 5:00 on Thanksgiving so Benson, the kids, and I went to the park earlier in the day and we also had a Guitar Hero competition. (Which we never finished. So I can't report the winner.) We had a lot of fun with them. It has been really fun to have them come here for Thanksgiving these past 2 years. Jeremy made this at school and I thought it was so cute.

Jeremy had a fun time going around taking random pictures. Here are a few. A lot of them didn't turn out.

I took this one.
Jeremy was very interested in the leg that Benson had been eating. He thought it was pretty funny.
