Hornings Hideout

On Saturday we went with the Ravert's to Hornings Hideout. They had been there before and we had never heard of it. We had a lot of fun. It was a good way to spend a hot day. Thanks guys for taking us. The kids had a really fun time playing together. Benson and the other guys went and played frisbee golf and had a fun time with that.

Jeremy, Brooklyn, Emma and Grace on the tire swing. Emma and Grace are twins and I will admit I still can't tell them apart!Hornings Hideout
Benson after a hot game of frisbee golf. This may be a surprise to some of you but Benson didn't break anything!!! He always manages to break something when he tries a new sport.
The kids were so excited when there was watermelon to have.
The kids also loved the paddle boats. There is also a water gun on the boat so they really enjoyed soaking each other.
I wish I would have gotten better pictures of everyone on the boats but they were so busy playing they wouldn't all look at the camera. Thanks Tiffany for getting on the boat with the kids.

We had a lot of fun. We are so happy we have gotten to know the Ravert's. They have 4 girls and they are such sweet girls. The kids love playing with them.

summer time

We have had so much fun going to the pool this summer. That is the one thing I will miss when we buy a house. We love being able to go to the pool whenever we want. Brooklyn has become quite the little swimmer. She loves being in the water! She has gotten so confident in the water. She and Jeremy are going to start swimming lessons in a couple of weeks. They are very excited.

showering baby

My good friend Shelly threw a baby shower for me. Of course I forgot to pull out my camera until the very end of the night, but I did get this one picture. My forgetfulness is getting really irritating especially for my husband. I could go on and on about all the things I have forgotten. But that is for a different post. Anyway, it was a lot of fun to get together with several of my friends.
I can't believe the baby is going to be here in just a few weeks. The time has really flown by. Knowing this is my last I am really trying to enjoy every minute of it. This has been a really easy pregnancy compared to my other two and I am so grateful for that. Thank you Shelly for putting the shower together and thank you for all the other things you do for me!

fresh strawberries

Yesterday we went and picked strawberries. We picked 9 pounds!!! We love fresh strawberries. I think I am going to have to figure out how to make freezer jam. Since we will have no car today I think it will be a perfect day and Benson is around to help me.

Brooklyn was very proud of this big strawberry she found.Jeremy had a blast finding the right strawberry and was excited to eat his big one with dinner.
Yummy strawberries. I look like one big strawberry myself!
It is amazing how fast you can pick strawberries. I think we were only there picking for about 15-20 minutes. Good thing because I got really hot and my poor back was sore. I also sat my big rear end on a thorn weed. It hurt, but was entertaining for my family.

even better news

Well Benson made it through the night! He can't believe I was really that scared. It wasn't a knock on him at all just on all the added trash that was downtown last night. Benson said there were so many cops working last night. Anyway all is well!

Also, our van needs a new transmission and motor mounts. Which would be bad news if it happened a couple more months down the road when our warranty had worn off. But thank goodness it is all covered under our warranty so that saved us around $3000. Of course the company that the extended warranty is through wants to come out and inspect it themselves to make sure the dealership is telling the truth because they don't want to pay for it. And of course the inspector can't come until Monday so it is stalling everything. But they will also pay for our rental car for up to 5 days so we should have to only pay for a day or two. The guy at the dealership said he isn't worried because he knows he is telling the truth. So anyway we will end up only paying a few hundred for the diagnosis and then the deductible of the warranty work.

So it is a good day!

Good News: Snoop Dogg in concert!

Well tonight is the most nervous I have been about Benson going to work. A big thanks to lovely Snoop Dogg being in concert in Benson's area tonight. Benson told me not to worry that there will be plenty of cops to back him up. I still don't like it. Not to mention that some porn star is in town at a local porn store signing autograhs tonight. Also, there are a bunch of fight clubs here tonight for a show here. So tonight should be really crazy in downtown. I just hope there are enough cops out tonight!

Jeremy's Birthday

Jeremy was so excited about his birthday. He couldn't wait to open presents and hit his pinata. But I have to tell you the conversation him and I had the morning of his birthday:
Me: Jer, Happy Birthday!
Jeremy: I knew you were going to say that.
Me: You are my big 4 year old boy now!
Jeremy: No, I am 3.
Me: No today is your birthday so you are 4 now.
Jeremy: Oh, I didn't know that!!!
Apparently he never put the two together. It was so funny!

Here is Jer with some of his presents. Thanks for the gifts!
Jeremy loves his new bike. See the pegs that are on the back wheel? Jeremy loves to put his feet on those and stand up! That's his newest trick. He keeps telling us how much he loves his new bike.
Breaking the pinata! He had so much fun.
Notice Jeremy is the only boy. What a ladies man.
Heidi, Jer, and Brooklyn
Happy Birthday Jeremy! We love you so much and are so happy you are part of our family. You truly bring so much happiness and laughter to our lives!!!!

Happy Father's Day

Benson didn't get much attention this Father's Day since it was also Jeremy's birthday. But he did have a really good dinner at our friends house. We had London Broil and BBQ Ribs! It was wonderful.

This is a picture Brooklyn painted for Benson. It is a picture of him that she made at school. She was so excited to give it to him. Thank you Benson for being such a great dad and husband. I love you!

Janel tagged me with the husband/marriage tag so I figured this would be the right place to put it. Here goes...

How long have you been married: 7 1/2 years and we've known/dated each other almost 12 years (that whole mission thing threw us off)

How old is your husband: 29

Who eats more: depends on what it is, Benson can pack away the meat! I have a major sweet tooth!

Who said "I love you" first: Benson did. We were on the phone...I know romantic...but I responded with a "thank you". I am sure it was not the response he was looking for but I was thrown totally off guard.

Who is taller: Benson

Who sings better: Benson

Who is smarter: We both have our strong areas but Benson is by far smarter! He uses such big words sometimes and I just have to laugh. Sometimes I think he is like 80 years old with some of the language that he uses.

Who controls the T.V.: Benson, but he also knows that there are shows that he just has to let me watch.

Who's temper is worse: that's easy, Benson's!!!

Who does the laundry: I hate to admit this but Benson does it quite a bit. I will start it but then I slack off and he does it all. I am trying to be better about it.

Who does the dishes: It used to be Benson but now I do them for the most part. I am trying to figure out how to get Benson to do them again. He used to say, "Don't worry about it, I will do them." I don't know what I did to break him but I am trying to figure it out!

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed: When we actually get to sleep together I sleep on the right side. I must say I have gotten quite used to having the whole bed to myself. But I do feel much safer when he is home.

Who cooks dinner: me

Who is more stubborn: It depends on what it is, we can both be pretty stubborn.

Who is the first to admit when they are wrong: hmmmm....We don't really fight. We get annoyed with each other but not really fight. We usually just discuss it and we are always both a little right. But since I am always a little more right I guess I would have to say Benson.

Who's parents do you see the most: well both, I guess mine if I have to say.

Who has more siblings: We have the same. But I grew up in the middle of six and Benson was at the very tail end of six so our experiences were very different.

Who has more friends: Where we currenty live I would say me. But all together I would say it's a toss up.

Who wears the pants in the family: Benson and me sometimes.

This was much harder then I expected. It amazes me how equal we are in some categories. Anyway, I tag: Shelly and Ryan

Kindergarten Graduation

Brooklyn had her kindergarten graduation yesterday. Brooklyn had very mixed emotions. She loves her teacher so much and loves kindergarten. But even though she is nervous I think she is excited for First Grade.
Brooklyn and Jeremy just before her last bus ride to school for the year.
They played the graduation music and had each child enter the room one at a time. It was pretty official.
If you can't tell Brooklyn was trying to hold in the tears on these next couple of pictures. Mrs. Doughty said a poem and tapped them on the head with the "First Grader" wand.
Getting her diploma!
This is Brooklyn with Mrs. Brickley. She taught Brooklyn's class for a couple of months while Mrs. Doughty was out due to surgery. Brooklyn loved her also.
It was a lot of fun going to her graduation. We even got Costco cake at the end, yummy! We ended the festivities by going out to lunch at Juan Colorado. Brooklyn picked the restaurant and she ate her entire plate of food.

the worth of a penny

So many people now a days thinks that a penny is worthless and should be done away with. I must say I disagree! A penny is a big deal to my children especially Jeremy. I got about a 1 minute foot rub from him for the cost of a penny. He could not have been more thrilled. I must say it was the best 1 cent I have ever spent. Now if I could just talk him into a 30 minute foot rub.

Jeremy's twin

Laura told me about this kid on the Ellen show and it cracked me up. This kid is even more obsessed then Jeremy although if I allowed him to have as many vacuums as this kid I am sure he would.

Disclaimer: This post has nothing to do with my friend that posted her experience about running into a birth mother but about the comment on her blog. I didn't want to leave this comment on her blog and start controversial subjects on her blog. So I thought I would do it on my own blog.

So I was reading my friends post about her sweet experience she had in the store about running into a lady that had decided to place her baby for adoption some 40 years earlier. And they talked about the experiences they each had had and the bond it formed between the 2 of them. I think it was a really sweet experience and one that she will treasure forever.

Now there was a comment on her blog saying something like this, "those of us that have our own children just having boring normal experiences..." I must say I was truly offended by such a statement. Having your own children is a wonderful blessing and something that should not be thought of lightly. We should be extremely grateful for our experience to give birth to our children. I will never think of giving birth as normal or boring. What an amazing experince to feel a life inside of you moving around. The birthing experience is a far cry from boring or normal. I can't express how I felt giving birth to my children and I look forward to my third with pure excitement. It is an experience like no other just like adopting is an experience like no other.

We all have our own story and each one is unique and special in its own way. I can't imagine the experience of adoption. What I can imagine, is the out of this world experience I have felt giving birth to my own. I think of all the women that have died trying to give birth to their children or that have nearly died doing so. The toll that pregnancy takes on your body but you will do it time and time again because it is a far cry from boring or normal. Raising children is a blessing from God and no matter how we got them here it doesn't change the worth of our children. Each child is special. Each experience is special and no one is more deserving then another. We all are given children in different ways and need to be happy for whatever way they come to us.

What I am trying to say in all of my ramblings is that we can be happy for each other no matter what way we got our children here without down playing our own experience. I am grateful for adoption, without it Avery would not be a member of our family and I can't imagine that. I am also grateful for those of us that have been able to give birth to our own children because I can't imagine all of those grandkids not being a part of our family.

I hope that this post is not offensive to anyone. It was not meant to be. Leave whatever comment you want.

Waterfront Park Fair

In June is the Rose Festival in Portland and they have a fair at Waterfront Park. We took the kids on Monday when Brooklyn got home from school. Luckily it hadn't started raining until the end of our fair experience. We went through a Jurassic Park themed dinosour museum and then we found these big trucks. We went through the petting zoo. Brooklyn was deathly afraid of the animals.
The kids went on 2 rides each. They went on these motorcycles and the roller coaster.

Before we left we watched a jester/magic/trick show. Whatever it was called the kids had a great time. Brooklyn was laughing so hard it was really cute. After the fair we went to the Beavers game.

Beavers Baseball

We went to the Beavers baseball game and had a fun time. It was no MLB but we still had a good time. We went with some friends of ours. Our friend Steve has a friend that plays for the Las Vegas 51's. Which was the team that the Beavers played. I had a hard time cheering for either team since Las Vegas is the Dodgers minor league team and Portland is the Padres minor league team. As you can tell the stadium was packed. I assume if we went on a nicer night (it rained the whole game) there would have been more people.
Nachos and cotton candy! If you ask Benson and Brooklyn those are a must at a baseball game. Jeremy had peanuts.

So we were sitting around camp and Brooklyn didn't feel well so she went and layed down. The rest of us were sitting around and I tried to get a picture of Benson and Jeremy but for some reason they both refused to take a decent picture. They thought it was too funny teasing me instead and these are the faces they gave me for pictures. So here is their revenge for not giving me decent smiles! What nerds!
