Detroit Lake

We went to Detroit Lake over Memorial Day. We had never been there but had been told that it was really pretty. We had a really good time as a family. Here are a few (or a lot) of pictures from our weekend.

One happy camper!
Benson was teaching Brooklyn how to skip rocks. She was very excited when she actually did it.
Jeremy wanted to throw this rock into the water. Needless to say he didn't throw it very far. Jeremy had a great time throwing rocks into the water. That is one of his favorite things to do.
by the lake
Benson was really close to the water telling Brooklyn something and Jer and I threw a big rock in his direction and got Benson all wet. Benson threatened to throw Jeremy in. Once Brooklyn knew he wasn't really going to throw Jeremy into the water she backed away and let Jer get teased.

This picture was not supposed to make it into this but it is too hard to delete. Apparently I put in the wrong number. It was supposed to be of Jer and Benson looking over the dam.
During our drive we stopped at the dam and walked across. This sight made our stomachs turn a little.
A view from the dam.
A waterfall we found while we were driving around the lake. Since we didn't know the name of it we named it Jeremy Waterfall since he always says that nothing has his name. We find Brooklyn's name everywhere!

We had a really good time. We took the kids bikes and they got to ride as much as they wanted. Jeremy found a hill right by our campsite that we loved riding down. Everytime he rode down we just held our breath hoping he didn't fall. He only did once and that is because he was getting really cocky!

Grandma's last night

We loved having Grandma here visiting. We had a lot of fun. We are so sad to see her trip end. Jeremy kept talking about packing is backpack and going with Grandma. Brooklyn would just get very sad and quiet and then cry. It is always hard to say goodbye. Jeremy asked me why Grandma had to go and I told him that she had to go back to work. Jeremy had a perfectly good answer in his mind. He said, "Oh, she can work where Daddy works." It made total sense to him. Thank you Grandma for all of the fun. It is fun to have family visit, I swear the kids get just as excited to have visitors as they do to have Santa come.

We also had another visitor this last weekend. Benson's nephew Zach was here for the weekend. The kids were soooo excited to see him. They love love love Zach. On Sunday Zach was gone all day and they kept talking about when he would be back. Of course I meant to get a picture of the kids with Zach before he left and then it totally slipped my mind. Hopefully he will be back soon and we can take lots of pics.

Brooklyn's pond project

Brooklyn had to make a pond scene for a school project. I will be honest, I was totally dreading it so we waited till the last minute. But we ended up having a lot of fun working on it and it turned out really cute. Brooklyn was so excited to present it to her class.

Benson made the pussy willows and my mom and I were both really impressed with them. It was comical at how impressed we were.
Jeremy working on his own project. He was very proud of it.
The finished project.

Cannon Beach with Grandma

My mom came to visit and while she was here we had a major heat wave. On Friday it was 95 degrees and we decided to head to the beach. It was 85 at the beach. It was absolutely perfect for a day at the beach. It was a little foggy but fun none the less. This was the first time the kids have worn their swimsuits at the beach in Oregon. We didn't leave the beach until 7:00. We got home around 9:30 and it was still 88 degrees at home. We were glad we decided to go to the beach. Gram and Brooklyn
The kids got along so well and had so much fun. It was wonderful!
Moments after this picture Jeremy was running from the wave and totally biffed it in the water. The water was freezing to say the least.
running from the waves
We had a really fun time and should have gone back on Saturday because it was 97 on Saturday. Man was it hot! Then again I am the person that would be perfectly happy if it was never above 80 degrees.

Hikin' the Falls

We had nice weather all weekend but since Benson sleeps "the weekend" away we decided that we needed to do something fun as a family on Monday. It was another beautiful day and we didn't want to spend it doing much of nothing. So Brooklyn missed school and we went to Multnomah Falls to hike to the top. It is only a mile so we figured it wouldn't be too bad. We also promised the kids that if they could do it without whining we would buy them ice cream cones when we got back to the bottom. These pictures tell of our adventure.

This is Brooklyn before we headed up.
There was a little cave that Jeremy thought was really cool. He wanted to get his picture taken in it but didn't dare go in by himself. We also took Uncle Matt on the hike with us part of the way via cell phone.

We found a caterpillar on the trail along with a couple of slugs. I didn't take a picture of them though.
I think this is about half way. From here there was a really pretty view of the Gorge and of the Falls.
This is the view of the falls from where we were in the picture above. This is really close to where Benson rolled his ankle off the path and fell. Lucky for him there was a rail right there and didn't fall all the way over. Too bad for me though because I didn't get the complete comic relief that it would have given me. (I can laugh because Benson would have laughed if it was me.)
Jeremy climbing through the roots of a tree.
I cannot believe I am putting a picture of me in here because I look terrible. But I needed proof that I did make it the full mile straight up the mountain. We took many rest stops. Thank goodness the weather wasn't too hot.

The view from the top of the falls. It made our stomachs turn a little bit.
This was a small fall just before the big one. You don't see this fall from the bottom.
over the edge
The kids did really well on the hike. There was very little complaining. We had a really fun time.
After you get to the top there are a lot of other hiking trails. We went on another trail and this is a picture from there. It was a really pretty trail.
We all made it back down in one piece we just had some sore knees and Benson a sore shoulder from his extra excursion to view the pavement closer. Brooklyn also took a little trip but handled herself well. She didn't shed a tear which is really good for her. So we got back down and went to buy the kids an ice cream cone and realized they were $3 a piece so we convinced them that McDonald's would be a better choice.

Brooklyn's kindergarten performance

Brooklyn's kindergarten class had a performance on Tuesday night. They sang a few songs. Then they turned on a black light and the kids had scarves and they danced around. The theme was pond animals. Brooklyn's class did the dancing like they were fish swimming through water. There was also a class that was frogs and a class that were ducks.

Brooklyn is the 3rd one over from the right in this picture. Brooklyn was in the back with all the boys because of her height. I told Benson that is ticks me off because even though she is tall she is still hard to see over all the kids and hats. I wish they would have rotated them or something. Next time I am going to put her in heels since she is on the back row anyway. (Sorry I just had to complain for a minute!)
Brooklyn with her good friend Heidi afterwards.
